Dalchini

Elegant and exquisite, Dalchini Indian Takeaway is situated on the very outskirts of the busy town centre minutes from Junction 24 of the M1 motorway. Word of mouth has seen a huge influx of customers looking for a take away that not only provides excellent food but has friendly staff and great service at reasonable prices.

When the opportunity came up to visit Dalchini on its opening day, and to sample some of their menu choices, I did not hesitate for a moment. Grove Tavern

Being the oldest pub in the area, there always used to be a steady flow of customers for its food. This started to tail off last year and fell away this year when a large section of the restaurant was closed off due to building works. Now that those renovations are complete, chef Mike Heap has created a really good ‘takeaway menu’. From my orders, I can say that the food is well worth picking up as it was some of the nicest and freshest pub food I’ve eaten in a while.

I’ve had a few beers at the Grove Tavern, as well as using their car park quite a lot — and I admit that when I heard about this opportunity I was pretty excited. Previously, the only way for me to have one of their delicious beers again would be either to go in (which I haven’t even done since it opened), or to order it from an off-licence. Basil

Okay. I’m going to be honest here. When we arrived at Basil, we had decided not to eat at the small Italian restaurant in Cambridge due to it being closed on a Wednesday night and only 11am opening hours on Thursday. However, as soon as we stepped into the ground floor space of the Victorian building in central Cambridge with its quirky décor, we knew that our plans were about to change. We’d faced a long day’s work with some tasty food needed followed by some relaxation and fun.

And apparently so did all of the other 30 people already waiting outside. The locally sourced cafe and deli offers freshly-baked bread from Proofed Bread in Croydon, as well as cakes and coffee.
